This is another obscure tape release which is for the first time on the net and I am happy to share this killer gem on Strappado. CHALACE were featured with the track "Under The Attack" on the "No Substitute For Steel" compilation Lp, which supported the local San Diego metal scene. There are no further informations about this band on the web, so it seems that this is the only available stuff, but I am not sure if this tape was ever released official. Just a curious note: This tape comes from Jim Cranford and John Haupt, which did the fabulous US label "O.P.M. Records" in the late nineties / early 2000. At that time, they were very interested to do a vinyl release from CHALACE but unfortunately they couldn't find any of the band members, so they decided to give away their one and only copy - for free!!!

Release: Demo #1, 1982

1. The Shadow Knows

4. Gates
Here is the '82 demo of the Seattle,Washington heavy metal squad SHADOW. The band was formed under the name WARRIOR by Dan Newcomb (guitar) & the brothers Rick (bass) & Chris Friel (drums / only 14 yrs! actually all where under 17 years old at the time). Wanting to beef up the sound the three youngsters called upon a second guitarist; Mike McCready and shortly after recruited the vocalist Rob Weber, this would be the complete Shadow line-up and in the winter of '82 they recorded their first demo; this 4-track tape.
Shadow was working on a "12-track demo" in '83 but I don't know if they finished it or not.. if someone have any info regarding this let me know! also looking for photos/cover scan/logo.

The perfomence took place at Corn Dolly in Oxford, England probably around September - exact date is unknown. This was recorded on the last concert that Urchin ever did. This night they did 2 sets and this is SET #1.
Some info that was provided with the download:
Before Adrian Smith joined Iron Maiden he played in Urchin. Maiden wanted him to join in early 1980 but Adrian thought he could make it with Urchin and wanted to wait. He later joined Maiden in November 1980. Since Adrian said in an interview around 88/89 that he dropped Urchin about a month and half before joining Maiden, this concert should have been in September. Some of the riff and ideas that Adrian had back in Urchin can later be found in song with Maiden, like - 22 Acacia Avenue, Wasted Years and Sheriff Of Huddersfield.

Artist: Pagan Altar
Release: Oracle Records, 2004
Genre: Doom Metal, NWOBHM
Country: England
Bitrate: ABR 320 kbps
►Fileserve
1. The Lords of Hypocrisy
2. Satan's Henchmen
3. Sentinels of Hate
4. Armageddon
5. The Interlude
6. The Aftermath
7. The Masquerade
8. The Devil Came Down to Brockley
9. March of the Dead
Pagan Altar were a NWOBHM band and in recording this album initially in 1982-84, were not satisfied with the results, particularly the drum tracks. Repeated attempts to get the blasted thing to sound the way they wanted were foiled, and the project shelved. Not long after the band fizzled out in response to public apathy. Twenty years later the band reformed, noticing a latent interest in their music. In the case of Lords Of Hypocrisy, the best option was to simply re-record the whole album, the project coming to fruition in the year 2004! Clearly veterans of Doom and the grand tradition of the NWOBHM, Pagan Altar slays the young bucks and their chattering blastbeats with imposing, ominous, Gothic Heavy Metal crafted on the gravestones of Doomed melodies. A no-brainer, ya gotta have it! I recommend you give it a listen and then make the logical choice and pick it up.

Artist: Witchfynde
Release: live bootleg, 1981
Genre: NWOBHM
Country: England
Bitrate: 320 kbps
►Fileserve
I found this bootleg recording in my interminable search for all recordings of Witchfynde, using the Soulseek file sharing program. Pretty good for a 1981 boot recorded at a medium-size pub! But partly the tape and partly the transfer to mp3 format brought out a terrible hiss, and the poor bastard's balls had been removed as well - I mean, not enough bass! The editing between tracks was also abrupt and distracting, and Hellzapoppin', 'Fynde's greatest anthem "Give 'Em Hell" was cut off just as Luther Beltz was about to unleash a terrifying scream of undeniable horror and sheer brute power! I think the bootlegger just ran out of tape! So I joined the tracks together as one audio file and edited in the BBC Sessions recording of Give 'Em Hell, recorded in the same year. I didn't attempt to fool anyone that it was the same recording, that would be futile. So it sounds a bit funny with a completely different recording mixed in at the end, but it was just too anti-climactic and a bummer with Give 'Em Hell getting cut off like that. I did several masters with Cubase 5, and opted for this bass-heavy one. I've included the original copy in this package, so you can see how I measured up! There is also another copy of this boot here on Strappado's Obscure Metal Blog, at strappadometalblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/witchfynde-live-at-joiners-arm-chorley.html

I remember two pictures of Toronto, Canada vocalist Leanne Haze in local entertainment papers in the early 90's...She was quite a sight in her alluring witch garb. They said her music was Wiccan Hard Rock and that she did Celtic Folk as well, I was intrigued. Eventually I found this CD in a used store, probably already out of print. Initially she seemed poised for success, her band HAZE creating a buzz in the industry-laden music scene of the big blue mean city. Wiccan Rock had potential for popularity at the time, but of course it never happened. Perhaps the style on this debut album was still too embedded in the 80's Hard Rock/Heavy Metal sound to make an impact in the 90's. The only other album I've found by HAZE is a single/EP featuring the song "Tom Dooley" and titled the same - being in a completely different style, kind of dark electronic Rock like a heavier Portishead. Surprised to find she has a Myspace site, for all intents and purposes she seemed to have disappeared completely after searching the net in the 90's and early 2000's. She says little about her releases as HAZE and provides no album cover shots, her musical associates opting for the same. I'll be providing a scan of my beaten up CD insert as soon as I can...Scanner glitch lol.
UPDATE November 6th, 2011 : Re-posted! Artwork d/l link is now included in the .rar file and front cover artwork is above. Yes, it's more than a little beat up, I used to carry this around in my pocket because of the symbol you can see in the image. Why? A nefarious cult called The Wizards of Choo were after my wooden ass. And if you'll believe that, you'll believe anything. The entire packaging content has been scanned and formatted in as high-quality as possible.

Artist: Pentagram (US)
Release: Downtime Records, 1998
Genre: Doom Metal
Country: USA
Bitrate: ABR 192 kbps
►Fileserve
The real Pentagram album in my opinion, which captures the original lineup in their prime. This is a collection of mostly rehearsal tapes from the early to mid-70's released for the first time in 1998, very rough, very raw, but possibly the best way to represent the unrestrained power of the original Pentagram.
Studio recordings include demos and the "Hurricane" single of 1973 (minus the B-side "Earthflight"), "Forever My Queen" is from the Bias Recordings Studio demo of 1973, and the studio origins of "Starlady", "Livin' In A Ram's Head", and "Downhill Slope" remain obscure to me at the moment.

Okidokie Metalheads, here is some more Hard Rock for you and this time a project of two legends, David Coverdale and Jimmy Page! I know that the album is not really rare or obscure but the two tracks I added to it are! Tracks 12 and 13 were never released. There are 4 more tracks made for this project but so far I couldn't find it. If any one has them please please contact us. There was a Maxi-CD (sort of EP) made with remixed versions of some tracks of the album. Who has that, please come forward and share!
A little side note is that the Spanish band 'Baron Rojo' did a cover of the song 'Shake My Tree'. If anyone is interested in that cover please let me know!
Also the legend has it that the project was started by Jimmy Page to lure Robert Plant to come back and reform a new form of Led Zeppelin using David Coverdale as a bait. But as I said it is a legend.

This is the only full length the band made although they made 2 more but after they changed the band name in to Jupiter in 1987 and under this name they played a Glam/Hard Rock style. The badass artwork was made by a friend of the band; Jesper Vallentin, he also drew other versions of it, one with a demon/headbanger playing a guitar at the cemetery while he steps on Ratt/Motley Crue discs, but the cover you see here was the one the band chose to use. I will probably get a high-resolution scan of it in the near future and upload it here, keep your eyes open!
Apocalypse also contributed with two tracks "Live I Laden" and "Genocide" on the 1987 "Metal Outlet" split together with Marion, Metal Cross, Gain and Royal Flush. The demo are basically in the same style and delivers great solid heavy metal! "Infernal War Machine" and "Witch Deceiver" got my attention immediately and are by far the best tracks on the demo, catchy riffs, great lyrics & choruses are all i need to get satisfied!.
Many thanks to Jesper Schmidt and Morten Nielsen for the cassette and for finnaly making it possible to hear this obscurity! Tak som helvede!
