Al Atkins was the original singer of Judas Priest. When the band called 'Freight' was founded by K. K. Downing and Ian Hill in 1969 they needed a singer. Al Atkins was quickly hired because K. K. knew him when tried to join Judas Priest as a guitarist in the mid 60's. When Judas Priest broke up, Al Atikins was out of a job. So 'Freight' took him in and also the band name of Judas Priest. The only 3 recordings of him with 'our' Priest are demo's but his legacy with Priest lives on with a couple of songs. Like 'Never Satisfied', 'Winter' and 'Caviar and Meths'.
This album gives his view of the early songs when he was in Judas Priest. Interesting song is Caviar and Meths. On the Rock and Rolla album it is only 2 mins. But there is an old recording circulating with Al on vocals which last 10 mins. On this album Al recreate the song and it is over 7 mins. His new version of 'Winter' is kinda cool. A bit doomy.
Also to note the drummer on this album is none other then Dave Holland who was the drummer of Judas Priest from 1979 till 1989. Doing drums on 'British Steel' up to 'Ram It Down'.
Fantastic recording, thanks for that Bones. The other Al Atkins work is very obscure also, does anyone have the other albums?
Thanks for posting this. Any chance of uploading Dreams of Avalon (1992) and Heavy Thoughts (1994)?
