Goddo were a third of the Toronto Hard Rock trinity of the late '70's, which included Max Webster and was led by Rush. This was a potent force in putting Canadian Rock on the map, as it unexpectedly exploded during this period. Like Max Webster, Goddo's popularity remained only national, and mostly in Toronto and the surrounding area. And unlike Max Webster, they never had a hit song. Bassist/vocalist Greg Godovitz led the band, after the demise of his previous and similarly notorious outfit Fludd. Goddo were the bad boys of the trinity, having a distinctly Punk Rock attitude while still essentially playing Hard Rock. They were prominent in the Canadian Rock scene from 1976 to 1983. A good read is Greg Godovitz' career autobiography Travels With My Amp.
"12 Gauge Goddo" is a double-length compilation, opened and closed respectively with two newly-recorded tracks for the release. The rest are Goddo classics from the self-titled debut "Goddo"(1977), "Who Cares" (1978), and "An Act Of Goddo" (1979). Highlights include "Oh Carole (Kiss My Whip)", "Tough Times", "Cock On", "Drop Dead (That's Who)", "Sweet Thing" from Who Cares, and "The Bus Driver Blues" and "Under My Hat" from Goddo. The band has resurfaced sporadically over the years, and their last original studio album was "Kings Of The Stoned Age" in 2004.
