Rip from the double LP (orange/black vinyl) compilation, containing DRAGONSLAYER's 80's recorded material. Released by SHADOW KINGDOM RECORDS on CD and vinyl in 2008!. Highly recommended!! If someone by any chance have "THE LOST DEMOS" or any other recordings of Dragonslayer not featured on this double LP please get in touch!.
Info taken from the inner gatefold:
Dragonslayer was formed in 1978 and were originally called HEAVY THUNDER. The line-up was Dave Walker - Vocals, Phil Odins - Guitars, Steve Morgan - Bass & Gary Walker - Drums. At the time we were doing covers by Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Uriah Heep, U.F.O. and Scorpions. Our first gig was in November 1978 at Ashfield Valle, Rochdale. It was an outdoor event on a bonfire night.
In 1980 we changed our name to SLAYER and we also had a line-up change. Tony Mamwell joined on vocals and Bob Carol on drums. Between 1980 and 1981 we recorded two demos which nobody seems to have copies of. Songs included on the lost demos were "Calling the Devil", "Memories and Teasers".
In 1982 we recorded an 8-track demo. (1. The Slayer, 2. Run Like Hell, 3. Blind Terror, 4. Satan is Free, 5. Broken Hearts, 6. Man in the Dark, 7. Hammer Head, 8. Lady of the Night)
Oct. 1983 Bob Carroll left the band and was replaced by Dave Phillips. We recorded the EP with the songs 1. I Want Your Life, 2. Satan Is Free, 3. Broken Hearts. It was released in January 1984 and this is when we became DRAGONSLAYER. We spent the next two years doing large expensive gigs. DRAGONSLAYER always went out with big lightning rigs, loads of pyro and a big P.A. The only venues that could accommodate us were large clubs, civic halls and colleges.
In 1986 we went back into the studio to records another demo (1. Rock With Me, 2. Lies In Your Eyes, 3. Dragon Drums, 4. The Hunger, 5. Satan's Soldiers, 6. The Battle Is On, 7. Catch Me). The response we were getting from record labels was that we needed to be more like MOTLEY CRUE. By 1987 we had come very disiullusioned and had lost out sense of direction. Bass player Steve Morgan left the band; this was a sad day as he was our Geezer Butler and a great friend. Mark Webb took over the bass duties. We recorded one last track "Roch the Radio" for the Ebony records "The Metal Collection Volume II (1987)" compilation.
The last DRAGONSLAYER gig was in the summer of 1987 at Ashfield Valley. Shortly after drummer Dave Phillips left the band, Phil and Tony decided it was time to take a break -Phil Odins 2008
