RAF was formed in Indianapolis in 1984 when ex-Fixtures guitarist Matt Miles joined childhood friend and fellow guitarist Duke Timbs, vocalist Don Alvey and keyboardist Garry Robbins in a band previously known as Scoundrel. By late 1985 RAF, which by then included drummer Scott Huff and bassist Joel Dowling, had graduated to the professional nightclub circuit. By December 1986, RAF had become one of Indiana's hardest-working bands. The group accepted an offer to tour in Peru and with new bassist/vocalist Matt Frost, undertook a highly successful tour in February 1987. Although Huff and Frost left at the end of April 1987, drummer Don Roth and bassist Craig Otto joined to record Hammered to the Wall and undertake a secong tour of Peru in August and September 1988, during which the band appeared on many TV programs, as well as live on stage.
The band broke up in November of 1988, but as Hammered to the Wall has been a stunning success as a collector's item on E-Bay and some copies have been sold for over 1500$. The album have been remastered and will be reissued any day now!
The members have all gone on to others things, but are still active in music and love to hear from anyone who remembers RAF or wants to know more.
