Info:
This is my first post here. I decided to upload in WAV format my rarest CD found all over the world. My first post is a rare re-release by russian Oblachnyij Kraj (Cloudy Region) from Arkangel, a freezing town on the coast of the Arctic Sea. They were formed in 1978 under the name of Mertvyie Ushi (Dead Ears) by guitarist/vocalist Sergej Bogaev and the Lyiskovskij brothers (Vocals, bass, keyboards) and - of course - because of times and political situation they played a sort of very light/experimental/jazzy/progressive rock. They recorded several songs under the monicker Mertbyie Ushi, spreaded through anonymous tapes in a semi-clandestine way. Until the end of 80's that was the only way to spread rock/alternative music in ex Soviet Union.
They changed name into Oblachnyij Kray in 1982 for their first Lp and - with time - they evolved into from very atmospheric slow metal (their first 6 Lp's up to Vershina Idiotizma) to a pretty aggressive thrash metal (particularly clear in their Svobodyi Zhahoteli Lp recorded in 1990)
During the years their Lps became pretty rare and hard to find and several CD editions were made by scrappy music labels, omitting several songs and compromising the sound quality.
Fortunately in the last years the band manager, Mr. Igor Plenov, decided to re-release all their albums (including the Mertvyie Ushi recordings) in expanded and very good quality editions, including all the songs omitted from previous CD editions, liner notes and unreleased/never heard before tracks.
There are 2 different sets. The first run of re-releases made in 2007 included the albums from "Stremyia i Liudi" to "Liubov' k Zhivni" in very well done plastic case editions with exhaustive liner notes and proper booklet, full Lp versions with unreleased/outtakes studio tracks. The second run, including their first 6 albums (from Oblachnyij Kraj I to Vershina Idiotizma) + the 2 Mertvyie Ushi tapes (Bolshoe Zhelezo + Made in Vaneeva) were printed in cheaper editions, poor slimcases cd box and no liner notes, but still with great audio remastering, full recording sessions and other unreleased songs. Only the first Mertvyie Ushi tape from 1978 is a CD-R while all the other countless Oblachnyij Kraj albums are on factory ressed CD. You can still easily order them from their official website if you are familiar with russian language.
So...here is the last Mertvyie Ushi recording, the "Made in Vaneeva 12-1988" Tape released under both band names. It is still a boring progressive rock with a lot of jazzy/bluesy moments, short intros and scarce traces of what would become the peculiar and fascinating sound of the band in the years to come. But still it's an important document as OK are recognised as the first heavy metal band in the ex Soviet Union (of course from their first 1982 Lp) and here you have the chance to listen to it in a WAV quality, with full artwork for the first time on the net.
